The Iowa Department of Public Safety (DPS) reported today that a body found along the Missouri River near Mondamin has been identified as Jeffrey Lynn Wallis, 57, of Mondamin.

Wallis had been reported missing since April 18 when his family had contacted the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office.

At 1:07 a.m. on April 22, the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call in reference to an individual who was fishing and discovered a body along the Missouri River near the Remington Landing boat ramp west of Mondamin.

The sheriff’s office recovered a male subject from the river, and the body was transported to the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny, where an autopsy was conducted on April 24

Dental records and tattoo markings were used to positively identify the subject as Wallis.

The investigation is being conducted by the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office, which is being assisted by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Burt County Sheriff’s Office of Nebraska. Final autopsy results are pending due to toxicology exams.
