TONY WILLIAM KALLAS

Tony William Kallas, age 82, of Ida Grove, Iowa passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2016, at the Willow Dale Wellness Village of Battle Creek, Iowa.

Tony William Kallas was born in Mason City, Iowa, on August 9, 1933, to William and Marie (Marroni) Kallas. Tony grew up in Mason City where he attended and graduated from Mason City High School with the class of 1951.

After high school, Tony went to work for JC Penney’s in Mason City, Iowa starting in the shoe department. Working his way up to a manager position, he travelled to different stores throughout the U.S.

Tony entered into marriage to Patricia Windelow and the couple were blessed with three children: Chris, Becky, and Steve. The couple later parted ways but remained close friends.

Relocating to Ida Grove, Iowa, in 1978, Tony managed the local JC Penney’s downtown. In 1986 while continuing to manage the JC Penney’s, Tony bought his son Chris’s shoe shop named Village Shoe Shop that was located in downtown Ida Grove. He retired from JC Penney’s in 1987 and continued to own and operate the Village Shoe Shop until 2001. His son Chris returned to the area in 2001 and took over the shop so that his dad could retire.

Tony was a faithful member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Ida Grove, Iowa, and the Knights of Columbus.

He enjoyed going on fishing trips with his family, gardening, wintering in Green Valley, Arizona, traveling, collecting gemstones, and watching the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Bears. Tony liked spending time on the lake at the cabin in Lake View, Iowa, with his special friend Berneil Preul. But most of all Tony treasured his family and grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving children, Chris (Donna) Kallas of Mapleton, Iowa, Becky (Darren) Swanson of Ida Grove, Iowa, and Steve Kallas (special friend, Ann Wonder) of Ida Grove, Iowa; grandchildren: Adam, Tara, Jacob, Joey, Dustin, and Sarah; great grandchildren: Gabe, Ethan, Isabel, Addison, Isaiah, Chelsey, Carson, and Chloe; sister-in-law, Marge Kallas of Mason City, Iowa; special friend, Berneil Preul of Denison, Iowa; and extended family and friends.
