According to the United Nations, over 2.5 million Ukrainians have been forced to flee into neighboring countries such as Poland, Moldova, and Bulgaria, resulting in one of the fastest-growing refugee crises Europe has seen since World War II.
Larry says that state legislators do not “listen to his concerns.” I have had numerous communications with Larry. I do not believe that listening to concerns means that I must agree with them at the end of the discussion.
We need to restore the political balance in lowa so that the rest of us - Democrats, independents, and moderate Republicans - will be represented by all levels of government. My state legislators, our 4th district Congressman Randy Feenstra, and Senators Grassley and Ernst do not listen to m…
National Ag Week is March 20-26. As a corn, soybean, and livestock farmer in Crawford County, I’m proud to celebrate that the crops I grow and the cattle I raise here in our community can be found across the world in the form of animal feed, fuel, food products and more.

Crawford County Farm Bureau Board of Directors wants to remind everyone when traveling on rural roads to slow down at intersections, especially where there is tall corn. Now that the corn is well over seven feet tall, it is impossible to see if there is a vehicle coming from your left or rig…

When I think of the Zion Lutheran Church, I think of its majestic beauty; of its history since its construction in 1929; of all the sentimental memories I often relive that occurred in this place; of the altar and the sunlight brightening the stained glass image of Jesus praying in the garden.
A church can be more than a church. Because of its history, events and memories a church can have enormous sentimental importance and value!
Martin Peterson’s recent letter regarding HF802, Critical Race Theory, is inaccurate. I floor-managed and helped write this bill, and in several emails to Mr. Peterson I explained that the legislation does not prohibit the teaching of slavery, Jim Crow laws, and other mistakes in our history…
Let me start with two caveats. First, this is not directed at any individual but rather city government as a whole. Second, I do not live in 1st Ward but I do live in the city of Denison.
Staff from the office of U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra will conduct traveling officer hours in 19 counties next week. Representatives from Feenstra’s office will be available to help constituents with casework such as passports, veterans’ benefits and other federal programs. Traveling office hour…
I’d like to take this opportunity for a public thank you to our three state legislators, (former) Sen. Mark Segebart, Sen. Jason Schultz and Rep. Steve Holt, for their staunch support for the unborn. They’ve worked tirelessly for years and continue to work on behalf of lives of the unborn.
So we can’t teach anything about the transgressions of white people?
Enough! I’m tired of being embarrassed by the Iowa Legislature. I hadn’t equated Iowa’s politics with that of Texas, or Mississippi, or Arkansas but here we are, included with these states in the national news.
The community banks in Crawford County thank Sen. Jason Schultz for his March 19 column that thoughtfully stated his job as chair of the Senate Commerce Committee is to provide a fair and competitive environment for all Iowa businesses so they can prosper and effectively serve their communities.
The 1619 Project was published by The New York Times Magazine in August 2019 on the 400th anniversary of the first slave ship arriving in Virginia.
Larry Peterson seems fixated on a group called ALEC. He clearly regards them as nefarious and believes that myself and Senator Jason Schultz are in cahoots with them, as he stated in a recent letter to the editor. So, let us set the record straight.
On behalf of the Boy Scouts of Troop 55 and the Cub Scouts of Pack 49, we would like to thank everyone who attended our Scouting for Food Chili Supper last Sunday.

It appears that Rep. Holt and Sen. Schultz are checking the last three boxes of the right wing American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) agenda. It began in Wisconsin in 2011 and has now captured Iowa.
Friends and neighbors,
There was a time when Republicans and Democrats discussed issues calmly and reasonably, like adults, without the name calling and character assassinations. They worked to get things done for the benefit and good of this country and for the American people. They were very similar in their des…
In September, I asked voters to think about one word – truth – before the cast their votes. Unfortunately, since the election, the truth has been shaken by lies about the election’s fairness, the efficacy of our political system and by the poison of white supremacy. George Packer of The Atla…
As the new year begins, I wanted to reach out and again share WESCO’s gratitude for the community’s love and support during 2020.
I would offer a different perspective from the October 16th Letter to the Editor authored by Larry Peterson.
While millions of votes are already cast across the United States, my words are meant for those undecided or hesitant voters who are out there.
