    Larry “Gator” Rivers, who helped integrate high school basketball in Georgia before playing for the Harlem Globetrotters and becoming a county commissioner in his native Savannah, has died. Chatham County Commission Chairman Chester Ellis says 73-year-old Rivers died Saturday from cancer. Rivers was a sophomore on the all-Black Beach High School team that won the first Georgia High School Association basketball tournament to include Black and white players in 1967.

      Adam Mich’s Denison-Schleswig girls’ track and field team rang up 91 points on April 20, as the Monarchs placed third out of eight schools at the Tiger Invitational at Carroll.

        The Denison-Schleswig boys’ track and field team accumulated 36 points en route to placing eighth out of 15 schools at the Tiger Invitational on April 20 at Carroll.

        On one of the best nights weather-wise this spring, the Denison-Schleswig girls’ track and field team achieved 179 points en route to winning the team championship at the Ace Nelson Relays on April 17 at Denison.

        The Denison-Schleswig boys’ track and field team achieved 22 personal records on April 17, as the Monarchs netted 72 points to place fifth at the Ace Nelson Relays at Denison.

        The Denison-Schleswig varsity boys’ soccer team posted its third consecutive victory on April 18, as the Monarchs earned a 3-0 triumph over Council Bluffs St. Albert at Denison.

        Boyer Valley placed seventh overall in the final team standings at the Tri-Center Girls’ Track and Field Invitational on April 13 at Neola.

        The IKM-Manning boys’ track and field team netted 125.33 points to take home second place from the East County Invitational on April 14 at Sac City.

        The IKM-Manning girls rang up 112 points en route to placing second out of nine schools at the East Sac County Track and Field Invitational on April 14 at Sac City.

        The Denison-Schleswig girls’ tennis team swept all three doubles matches en route to a 6-3 victory over Storm Lake on April 14 at Storm Lake.
