The Northern Lights will be visible in 17 US states this week due to a solar storm. The phenomenon occurs when charged particles from solar winds collide with Earth's upper atmosphere, releasing energy. The Northern Lights are most often seen in Alaska, Canada and Scandinavia. However, the Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska at Fairbanks has forecast auroral activity on July 13 in several US States. The 17 States Where You Can See The Northern Lights: Alaska Oregon Washington Idaho Montana Wyoming North Dakota South Dakota Minnesota. Michigan New York New Hampshire Vermont Indiana Maine Maryland. Auroral activity has also been forecast for Canada, including Vancouver
