2024 NFL Week 3 odds, picks & predictions ATS: Winless teams rebound

Well, it’s not like we weren’t warned.

Coming into last weekend’s NFL games, the goal was not to overreact based on Week 1 performances. But who could have foreseen what happened in Week 2?

Simply put, it was a bad day for the betting public and a great day for the sportsbooks.

Across the board (and books) three of the most heavily bet favorites – Ravens (-8.5), Cowboys (-6) and 49ers (4.5) – not only failed to cover, they lost the game. Straight up.

Ouch.

Betting slips and survivor pools were burned and destroyed, and we haven’t even gotten out of mid-September.

As for us here at FrontPageBets, we did alright against the spread, trying to keep a level head in Week 2. We finished 10-6 ATS.

But straight up was a different story, with the Falcons’ surprise win over the Eagles on Monday night, dropping us to 8-8.

Well, there’s always this week, right?

Here are some things to know heading into the third Sunday of the NFL season:

Just because some key favorites lost last week, doesn’t mean that we should completely punt on them.

Through the first two weeks of the season, favorites are winning almost 66% of their games (21-11). That’s the best winning percentage across the board.

Favorites are covering only 45.2% of the time this season, while home favorites are 39.1% (9-14) ATS.

Since 2010, according to VSiN, teams that start out the season 0-2 straight up are 26-25 in Week 3, but they are 35-15-1 against the spread when playing 1-1 teams in the third week.

Think about that.

There are seven games this weekend where 0-2 teams are playing 1-1 squads. So, if this stat holds true, 70% of the winless teams will cover.

Who could it be out of this group?

• Giants (0-2) vs. Cleveland (1-1); Browns are 6.5-point favorites
• Packers (1-1) vs. Titans (0-2); Titans are 1.5-point favorites
• Bears (1-1) vs. Colts (0-2); Colts are 1.5-point favorites
• Panthers (0-2) vs. Raiders (1-1); Raiders are 5-point favorites
• Ravens (0-2) vs. Cowboys (1-1); Ravens are 1-point favorites
• 49ers (1-1) vs. Rams (0-2); 49ers are 7-point favorites
• Commanders (1-1) vs. Bengals (0-2); Bengals are 7.5-point favorites

My money’s on the Giants, Panthers, Ravens and Rams.
