The camp is situated on high ground and provides an extensive view over the ancient deer parks and surrounding countryside. A former army convalescent hospital, the camp has been converted to accommodate 1,500 competitors and a domestic staff of 200. Though the arrangements are of necessity on a utility basis, the social needs of the competitors are being catered for and there will be writing rooms, cafe, milk bar and a cinema seating 500 persons. The camp will have its own shops, including bookstall, cobblers, hairdressers dry-cleaning and laundry services, bank and post office.
