Led by Tom Brady, Tampa Bay is the favorite in the NFC. Who could challenge the Bucs?
Aaron Rodgers remains with the Green Bay Packers. Correspondingly, the Packers are still the choice to win the NFC North in the 2022-23 NFL season.
Rodgers, the league's Most Valuable Player the past two seasons, flirted with trying to force a trade. Instead, he signed a three-year, $150 million contract extension to stay in Titletown.
Green Bay is a -175 favorite to win the division at DraftKings. As excited as the Packers are to have the franchise quarterback back, they saw a thin receiving corps get thinner. Gone are receivers Davante Adams (Las Vegas Raiders) and Marquez Valdes-Scantling (Kansas City Chiefs).
FrontPageBets provides a glimpse into the teams in the North and their futures.
The Packers have the ability to run the ball behind Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon. Their defense remains strong. Who will fill the void on the receiving end for Rodgers? Sammy Watkins joins the fold from the Baltimore Ravens. Christian Watson comes via the draft and North Dakota State.
Given the relative strength of the rest of the division, it's tough not to see Green Bay prevailing.
The Minnesota Vikings (+275) were probably rooting hard for Rodgers to go away. The inconsistent Kirk Cousins is the incumbent at quarterback and will need to show more than he has to this point. New coach Kevin O'Connell will try to spark an offense that still has RB Dalvin Cook and WRs Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen. New GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah made the team's defense better in the draft, adding Georgia safety Lewis Cine and Clemson corner Andrew Booth Jr.. But is it enough to catch the Packers?
The Detroit Lions (+1000) made the most of the draft, adding elite edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson out of Michigan as well as standout Alabama receiver Jameson Williams. That's a 1-2 punch of impact players who should help the team on both sides of the ball. QB Jared Goff gets a target in Williams to pair nicely with last year's big addition Amon-Ra St. Brown. Hutchinson can learn from veteran Michael Brockers and potentially develop quickly. After a 3-13-1 season, there's plenty of space to get better. Coach Dan Campbell can probably gamble less with play-calling.
The Chicago Bears (+1000) have reshuffled the deck at GM and head coach. Enter Ryan Poles in the front office and Matt Eberflus on the sideline. Priority one is protecting quarterback Justin Fields, who got hammered on a weekly basis by opposing pass rushers. Chicago drafted four offensive linemen to try and plug the holes. In a move that stung, but needed to be done, they dealt star OLB Khalil Mack to the Los Angeles Chargers. It was the start of a salary-cap tightening that also led to shedding LB Danny Trevathan and QB Nick Foles. This Bears' rebuild is a work in progress that will be painful in the coming campaign.Â
